I’ve no desire to put words in anyone’s mouth, but this strikes me as the kind of thing Master Lightbody might have made up on the road to Fornost. I am sure my inspiration here is clear to fans of The Lord of the Rings.
Sing hey! for the cheese when it’s time for tea—
A slice for the Ranger and a slab for me.
A fool is he who will not shout
To the maid for a wheel with a pint of stout!
O! Sweet is the sound of the gurgling keg,
Or a joint of beef and a fine lamb-leg,
But better than mutton or joint or stew
Is a brie from Bree when we’ve downed a few!
O! Pints of ale we may pour at will
Down our gullets dry and be thirsty still,
But better is cheddar on a journey long
For to fill our bellies and loose our song!
O! Sausage is fine that sizzles and pops
Or a draught of lager when it’s rich with hops,
But never did bangers e’er taste as fair
As a nip of cheese in the autumn air!
